Biography

I am a postdoctoral research associate at the School of Computer Science and Mathematics of Keele University. Before working for Keele University, I obtained my PhD from the Department of Computer Engineering of Ankara University (Türkiye). My PhD thesis title was “Machine Learning Approaches to Predict the Human Microbiome and Disease Associations”. Previously, I worked at Ankara University as a research assistant and I was actively involved in undergraduate education, teaching courses in programming, data structures, and discrete mathematics. I also have an MSc and BSc in Computer Engineering. I am passionate about bridging the gap between theory and application, and I aim to contribute to developing methods to design and gain insights into biological systems.

Research and scholarship

As a postdoctoral research associate, I am working on a BBSRC-funded project to create, visualise and validate biological designs.

Currently, my research focuses on the visualization and modelling of synthetic biological circuits. I am working to develop new tools and methods that will enable more understandable and effective visualization of genetic circuits.

I conducted extensive research on machine learning applications on the human microbiome during my doctorate. I focused specifically on developing advanced computational methods for disease diagnosis, prediction, and clinical decision support systems. I developed sequence-based machine learning approaches for the early detection of Crohn's disease and IBD using human microbiome data.

By combining modern technics in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and synthetic biology with interdisciplinary approaches, I aim to translate my research into practical applications.
