Course structure
If you choose the 'with Placement' route, you will complete a 6-12 month placement module after the taught element of your programme.

Financial Technology (FinTech) module structure
Financial Markets and Institutions
This module explores how global financial markets and institutions work, from banks and central banks to fintech and digital platforms. You will examine how financial instruments and intermediaries shape investment, regulation, and risk, and how innovation and globalisation are transforming financial systems. Using real-world cases and data, the module develops your ability to analyse markets, understand regulation, and apply insights to contemporary issues in finance, banking, and investment.
FinTech Applications and Practice
Fintech Applications and Practice explores how technology is transforming finance. Designed for students from non-technical backgrounds, the module helps you understand and apply fintech solutions in areas like banking, investment, insurance, and consultancy. You will work with real-world case studies, explore new technologies, and build practical skills for your career. The module also encourages you to think critically about innovation, regulation, and ethics in today’s financial world.
Financial Ethics and Regulations
In this module students will learn the importance of ethics and trust that is at the core of the financial services sector such as banking and investment management. Students will develop insights and skills and be able to critically analyse the ethical standards that are the pre-requisite in the financial services sector. Students will also obtain a solid understanding of the legal and regulatory requirements that forms the basis of the industry.
Quantitative Analysis for FinTech Applications
In this module, you will explore analytical techniques for harnessing data in support of financial decision making. You will delve into a range of topics, including financial series modelling and analysis using machine learning methods, all within the wider financial market context. You will also acquire practical skills in applying Python programming for a range of practical fintech applications like financial models, capital markets, and asset pricing, while exploring how these techniques can transform complex financial data into actionable insights.
Business Consultancy Project
In the Business Consultancy Project, you will develop practical skills and gain hands-on experience by working on a real organisational challenge to create effective solutions. This module teaches you how to engage with businesses, frame complex issues, and apply creativity and innovation. It strengthens core skills in collaboration, communication, and problem-solving—essential for your professional development. Additionally, it complements other areas of the programme by enhancing your ability to apply consultancy skills in diverse contexts. The skills gained in this module will be valuable for all students, including those who take the Placement option.
Professional Development and Industry Insights
This module helps you explore the industry you want to work in, including its structure, recruitment practices, and key trends. You will assess your own skills and experiences, identifying how you align with the industry’s needs and expectations. Through active learning, reflective activities, and guest speaker insights, you will develop practical knowledge and career planning skills. The module supports your progression into the Professional Project, and Placement, preparing you for future opportunities.
Professional Project
In the Professional Project, you will undertake an independent piece of work that builds on academic and practical skills developed throughout the programme. You can choose from three routes: a research project, a consultancy project, or a strategic business proposal, aligned to your career aspirations. We will support you in preparing for your chosen path with essential research or consultancy skills. The module culminates in a detailed write-up and reflective analysis, showcasing your expertise and professional growth.

The majority of our courses will consider relevant work experience and/or professional qualifications at the appropriate level, as an alternative to an undergraduate degree for entry. The work experience should be for a sustained period and at a suitable level, based within a relevant sector to your chosen course.

How you'll be taught
Teaching on our Financial Technology (FinTech) MSc combines interactive and applied learning methods to create a dynamic and engaging experience. You’ll benefit from interactive, in person lectures, small group tutorials, and web-based learning via the Keele Learning Environment (KLE). Independent study is encouraged, allowing you to explore your interests in greater depth, while reflective practice helps you evaluate and enhance your learning journey. Communication and teamwork skills are developed through peer-assisted learning and collaborative projects.
