FYO-00233 - Advancing Applied Maths and Computing - Making Decisions

Advancing Applied Maths and Computing - Making Decisions (15 credits)

This module introduces you to mathematical decision making and problem solving. It also requires you to undertake an open-ended investigation of a real-life scenario, requiring a decision that you can justify mathematically.

You will achieve this by developing a knowledge of the main mathematical techniques used in decision making. You will then assess your understanding of these techniques by applying these them to set problems.

Successful completion of the module will mean that you acquire the skills to apply mathematical techniques to help solve real-world problems. These skills will be developed in a group context; working with fellow students giving you the opportunity to develop the collaborative skills desirable to research and many fields of employment. This module equips you with some of the necessary mathematical skills to support your on-going study in either Single or Combined Honours in Mathematics or Computer Science.
