Foundation years for international students

Keele University provides several foundation year options for international students, suitable for students whose current academic qualifications and / or English language level do not allow direct application to an undergraduate degree programme. These courses are designed to prepare international students to enter into Keele University undergraduate degrees.

  • Subject: All subjects across business, science, social sciences and humanities, except Veterinary Medicine and Surgery
  • Length: A one year preparatory programme
  • Entry requirement: SELT IELTS 5.0 (with 5.0 in all subtests) or above
  • Key information: A place on a degree programme at Keele is guaranteed, subject to successful completion of the Foundation Year with the required threshold marks and a new visa being obtained. 
  • Subject: All subjects across business, science, social sciences and humanities, except Veterinary Medicine and Surgery
  • Length: 4 - 6 years*
  • Entry requirement: IELTS 5.5 (with 5.5 in all subtests) or abov
  • Key information: Upon successful achievement of the required grades in the International Foundation Year, students can progress to year one of an undergraduate degree at Keele
  • Subject: All Health subjects except Medicine 
  • Length: 1 year +3/4 years*
  • Entry requirement: Entry requirements differ dependent on the health subject. Entry requirements will be listed on the course page of your chosen programme
  • Key information: There is no January entry point for health programmes with Foundation Year
  • Length: 4 - 6 years

Students with IELTS 5.5 (with 5.5 in all subtests) should apply for the International Foundation Year (integrated route).

Students with SELT IELTS 5.0 (with 5.0 in all subtests) or above should apply for the International Foundation Year (standalone preparatory programme). This route is not open to Health degrees.

Students applying for a Health degree should apply for the Health Foundation Year (integrated route). IELTS requirements can be viewed on the course page.

The UCAS course code for the International Foundation Year (standalone preparatory programme) is Y002.

The UCAS course code for the International Foundation Year (integrated route) and the Health Foundation Year (integrated route) will depend on the route and can be found on the course page of your chosen degree.

We do not offer a January entry point for any of our health programmes. All other subjects (including the standalone International Foundation Year) have a January starting point. Please visit the January pages for further information
