Advancing Human Biology for Health (30 credits)

Following on from introductory content in the first semester, you will explore the concept of gene mutation and some of the common issues that this can cause. Delving further into hormones and homeostasis, you will research conditions such as diabetes and hyper/hypothyroidism. Immunology will build on the foundations of knowledge in cells and tissues, focusing on infectious and noninfectious diseases, including current topical issues such as anti-microbial resistance. You will also be introduced to the anatomical structures and body systems that enable you to move and be active and what happens to the systems when they experience trauma in order to heal.
