University Chief External Examiner

The University appoints a University Chief External Examiner to ensure that at the main University Examination Boards awards and decisions on progression are made consistently and fairly.

The University Chief External Examiner provides an overview of the soundness and robustness of the University’s Examination Board procedures at University level. They do this by:

  • Advising on:
    • Assessment and progression regulations and guidance relating to examination boards
    • The University’s degree algorithm and criteria for borderline candidates
  • Contributing to the central University Examination Boards for Levels 4-6 and Reassessment Board to:
    • Confirm procedures for assessment have been followed
    • Confirm Guidance for the Examination Boards is being adhered to
    • Offer advice on matters of precedent
