Biography
Nisha Rix is a Lecturer in Biomedical Science at Keele University, having joined the University in 2024. She has over 10 years of professional experience as a Biomedical Scientist within the NHS, working in Pathology laboratories across different NHS Trusts, predominantly in Clinical Biochemistry. Prior to joining Keele, she worked as a Senior Biomedical Scientist in Clinical Biochemistry at University Hospitals of North Midlands, Royal Stoke University Hospital.
Nisha brings her extensive clinical and professional experience into her academic practice, enabling her to integrate current laboratory practice, clinical context and professional standards into the learning environment. She is involved in teaching and curriculum development across the Biomedical Science programme, with a particular focus on creating engaging, inclusive and clinically relevant learning experiences that support students’ development of scientific knowledge, clinical reasoning and professional competencies.
Alongside her academic role, Nisha is a UKAS Technical Assessor for Medical Laboratories and has experience assessing laboratory quality systems against relevant accreditation standards.
Nisha’s academic interests include educational development, curriculum innovation, laboratory medicine, assessment and the integration of authentic clinical practice into Biomedical Science education.

Supervision
Nisha supervises undergraduate and MSc students, providing academic guidance and support throughout their studies, including in relation to research, assessment and professional development. She also supports students undertaking clinical placements within NHS laboratories, completing their IBMS Registration Training Portfolio.
