New Special Collections showcase
Our Special Collections and Archives have published a new showcase on the North Staffordshire Miners’ Wives Action Group Archive!
The showcase, produced by Rebecca Wells as part of her work placement during her final year of studying English Literature at Keele, is focused on the North Staffordshire Miners’ Wives Action Group archive that was kindly donated to Keele by the Group’s surviving member, Rose Hunter.
The Group, which formed in response to the 1984 miners’ strike, has actively campaigned for over 40 years and the archive covers the Group’s history from its inception to the present day, and includes correspondence, reports, minutes, diaries and more.
Rebecca’s research focuses on the collection of handwritten diaries that detail the daily activities of the Group’s protest camp at Trentham Pit, where in 1993, a caravan was towed to the Hem Heath colliery entrance, and a camp was set up to protest the closure of the Trentham super pit.
Enquiries regarding the North Staffordshire Miners’ Wives Action Group Archive should be directed to Special Collections, and for more information about our Special Collections and Archives, including up to date opening times, please head to our service page.
