New EBSCO UI and ebooks accessibility enhancements
EBSCOhost ebooks, EBSCO databases and EBSCO OpenDisserations have migrated to a new user interface which reflects their ongoing commitment to enhancing the accessibility of the user experience!
The new user interface and accessibility enhancements offer a more intuitive streamlined interface to improve usability and research outcomes that enhance the user experience for all users, by introducing personalised dashboards, enhanced displays and detailed record and viewer experiences, and greater citing and sharing options.
Users can perform basic searches by entering their search terms into the search box and the auto-complete feature offers popular search terms, whilst the advanced search functionality offers guided-style search boxes for users to perform more complex searches. Filters and limiters can be applied to searches to guide a search using different terms, such as author, title, and subject terms.
Users with a personal myEBSCO account can save search results in a ‘project’ folder on their personalised dashboard, which allows search results to be accessed whenever they are signed in. Please note that users who have previously saved searches on their personal myEBSCO account on the old user interface will need to more their saved searches into the new user interface, and there is guidance on this process.
There is also the functionality to copy, export and download citations as well as share links to items and search results. The text-to-speech functionality for PDF and EPUB formatted e-books as well as articles allows users to control the reading speed as well as the choice of accents and colour choice for highlighting text as it’s read aloud.
Users can also request (where possible depending on what is available from publishers) alternative formats as well as adjust the character, word, and line spacing on EPUB formatted e-books, whilst the display of accessibility information allows users to view the available accessibility features for individual items.
There are tutorials demonstrating the features of the new EBSCOhost user interface and the new EBSCO Discovery Service user interface, as well as a handy upcoming features and FAQs that gives further information on the new accessibility functionalities and a accessibility user guide and FAQs too.
For access, please login with your Keele username and password. EBSCOhost ebooks, EBSCO OpenDisserations, and EBSCO databases are all available on the library’s A-Z of online resources and there’s video tutorials plus help on using the EBSCO platforms!
