Keele ranked in top 20 in England for social mobility
Keele University has been named in the top 20 of English universities for graduate social mobility in a comprehensive annual ranking.
It has risen three places in the 2025 Higher Education Policy Institute's (HEPI) Social Mobility Index, which measures how effectively universities support socio-economically disadvantaged students, from their enrolment to their post-graduation success.
Rising from 23rd in 2024 to 20th in 2025 out of 100 institutions in England, the analysis uses data on access, continuation and outcomes for undergraduates.
Keele performed particularly strongly in the “graduate outcomes” category in this year’s assessment, recognising its work to produce employable graduates. The Index highlights the University’s significant impact in enabling students from disadvantaged backgrounds to access opportunities, thrive in their careers, and achieve meaningful long-term outcomes.
Every undergraduate degree (excluding Apprenticeships and 'top-up' degrees) at Keele now offers a placement year or an integrated clinical or professional placement, further highlighting the university’s work to increase connections and employability prospects for students through strong links to businesses and industry partners.
The University is also committed to ensuring all students have the best chance to succeed, with alternative and contextual offers available for applicants from under-represented groups.
Robbie Pickles, Director of Global Student Recruitment and Admissions at Keele, said: “We are incredibly proud to see Keele recognised as one of the top universities in England for social mobility.
“Supporting students from all backgrounds to access higher education and succeed in their careers is core to who we are as an institution. This ranking demonstrates the real impact our colleagues make every day, and we will continue striving to remove barriers and expand opportunities for all.”
