Keele University ranked in Top 10 in England for international student experience
Keele University has been recognised among the top 10 universities in England for international student experience in the prestigious national Whatuni Student Choice Awards (WUSCAs) - an accolade determined entirely by student votes.
The University secured ninth place nationally in the international category, with students praising Keele's welcoming campus community, global outlook, and support for students from around the world.
The recognition highlights Keele's continued commitment to providing an inclusive and enriching student experience for both UK and international students.
The Whatuni Student Choice Awards are widely recognised as one of the most important indicators of student satisfaction in UK higher education, drawing on tens of thousands of independent student reviews from across the sector.
Sandra Suresh, a postgraduate international student from India, who studied a master’s in Accounting and Financial Management, said she felt 'welcomed, supported and seen' from the moment she arrived at Keele.
She said: "Stepping out of my home country for the first time at the age of 23 was a leap I never imagined I would take. Until then, I had never lived away from my family, never navigated life independently, and certainly never pictured myself studying on the other side of the world. Yet, choosing Keele University transformed what could have been an overwhelming transition into one of the most rewarding chapters of my life.
"The first thing that struck me about Keele was its community, something I am convinced is unmatched anywhere else in the UK. Keele isn’t just a university; it’s a place where people genuinely look out for one another.
"As an international student, that sense of belonging mattered more than anything. Keele quickly became my home away from home, easing the anxieties of living abroad for the first time and replacing them with excitement, comfort, and connection."
Thivanka Vithanage, a postgraduate international student from Sri Lanka who studied a master's degree in Environmental Sustainability and Green Technology at Keele, said: "As a newcomer to the subject, I had doubts at the beginning of the academic year about whether I would be able to succeed. However, the welcoming university community, knowledgeable and supportive lecturers, and diverse student population made me feel comfortable and at home.
"I have gained a great deal of knowledge in sustainability and renewable energy, which has broadened my thinking and changed my perspective on the world. Keele is a wonderful place for those who want to grow and become the very best in their chosen field."
Professor Antonius Raghubansie, Pro Vice-Chancellor (International) and Professor of Digital Marketing & Global Engagement, said: "Recognition like this is particularly special because it comes directly from our students. It reflects the welcoming and supportive environment we work hard to create, as well as our commitment to delivering an engaging student experience that prepares students for success beyond university.
"I would also like to thank our staff for their continued hard work and dedication, which play such an important role in making Keele such a positive and inclusive community. Our student support team led a range of enhancements with colleagues across Keele last year and will continue to do so."
