Foundations of Life Sciences

Foundations of Life Sciences (15 credits)

This module looks at basic cell biology in terms of structure and function and go on to examine how cells obtain their energy for example, byphotosynthesis, and raw materials, for example via the nitrogen cycle. It continues by considering how organisms interact including competitionand predation and finishes by analysing the effects of climate change on ecosystems. You will see how the great variety of life on earth arises from the same basic building blocks, and how these interact to produce living organisms. We will examine how human activities contribute to environmental changes and evaluate our responses to them.
