Advancing Human Biology for Health (30 credits)
This module will build upon your prior knowledge of the functioning of a healthy human body. Following on from the introductory content of genetic material, you will explore the concept of gene mutation and some of the common issues that this can cause. Building on the knowledge of hormones and homeostasis, you will research conditions such as diabetes and hyper/hypothyroidism. When focusing on infectious and non-infectious diseases, current topical issues such as anti-microbial resistance will be taught in context with sustainability and global healthcare. Immunology will build on the foundations of knowledge in cells and tissues. You will also be introduced to the anatomical structures and body systems that enable you to move and be active and what happens to the systems when they experience trauma in order to heal.
