FYO-00265 - Foundations of Social Sciences 2
Foundations of Social Sciences 2 (15 credits)
The movement of people is nothing new. People have been travelling to new locations for thousands of years, yet topics such as migration, asylum, cohesion and assimilation have been, and continue to be, prominent arenas of discussion in contemporary society. This module asks: When does mobility become migration? Why is the international movement of some peoples seen as problematic, but for others it is welcome? Are restrictions of such movement based largely on racial/ethnic prejudice? In doing so, this module challenges the common held assumptions regarding migration which are often negative and derogatory.
This module will appeal to students across the Social Sciences and prepare them for a range of subjects and combinations including Sociology, Politics, International Relations, Criminology, Law and others.
