FYO-00257 - Foundations of Humanities 1
Foundations of Humanities 1 (15 credits)
The figure of the outsider is a fascinating focus for the study of the human condition; saying as much about the nature of mainstream society and their ability to accept difference, as it does the nature of what it is to be an individual or a group on the margins of society. In this module, we concentrate largely on literary representations, as well as moments in history when the beliefs and behaviours of specific groups jar with dominant ideologies. Is it important to ‘fit in’? What happens when cultures, rituals, and ideologies clash? And what are the consequences of non-conformism?
