National Year of Reading: Staff Favourites - Amanda
As you may already be aware, 2026 is the National Year of Reading!
The National Year of Reading is a UK-wide campaign designed to help more people rediscover the joy of reading. As a library, it only felt right to celebrate by asking some of our lovely staff to share their favourite books or magazines and why they love them.
Amanda, who works at the Campus Library, has chosen Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone by JK Rowling as her favourite. She explains:
“When I was a young kid, about 11, I wasn’t much for reading. I didn’t enjoy it or see the point. It wasn’t until I was on holiday with my family when my sister told me about this book and how she couldn’t put it down. I still didn’t want to read it, so she started reading the book from the beginning out loud, to my annoyance. Eventually though, I found myself drawn into this world, eager to get to the next page. I ended up taking the book and reading it myself as she wasn’t going quick enough. This book (with a little help from my sister, thanks Julie) opened my eyes to the many worlds that came with reading and started my love of books”
