National Year of Reading: Staff Favourites - Steve
As you may already be aware, 2026 is the National Year of Reading!
The National Year of Reading is a UK-wide campaign designed to help more people rediscover the joy of reading. As a library, it only felt right to celebrate by asking some of our lovely staff to share their favourite books or magazines and why they love them.
Steve, who works at the Campus Library, has chosen The Cider House Rules as his favourite. He explains:
“It's really hard to pick a favourite book but I nearly always enjoy books by John Irving! This has a powerful, moving story with really memorable characters and although like most Irving books it's quite long, it gives you time to really get to know the characters and the world they inhabit. There's also quite a good movie version, which I think Michael Caine got an Oscar for! His accent moves from American to Cockney throughout if I remember rightly but he's still great as Dr Larch!"
