New Thorium Reader App for EBSCO
Introducing the Thorium Reader App for EBSCO ebooks!
The Thorium Reader app is a new, dedicated desktop app designed for reading downloaded ebooks from the EBSCOhost ebooks Platform. It replaces Adobe Digital Editions as the primary offline reading solution and offers users a highly accessible and modern ebook reader application. The app supports PDF, EPUB and DAISY formats, offers users a range of functionality, and is available as a desktop app for Windows, MacOS, and Linux. Please note that Thorium Reader is not currently available as a mobile app.
Users will be able to register up to 6 devices. To use the Thorium Reader app, users will need to install the app onto their device and ensure that they have a personal MyEBSCO account. Each different device registered will require a new passphrase when first downloading any ebook onto that device.
To download ebooks using the Thorium Reader app, search and select the required book title on the EBSCOhost ebook Platform, click on ‘Download’ and then ‘Full eBook’. Select ‘Sign in’ and enter the login credentials for your personal MyEBSCO account. Choose the ‘Borrow for’ period, select one of the available formats, and copy the passphrase. Open the Thorium Reader app on your device and choose ‘Import Publication’. Enter the copied passphrase when prompted.
The key features of the app include customisable display options, light and dark modes, text-to-speech functionality, as well as notetaking, highlighting, and bookmarking.
There's a handy Thorium Reader FAQs page, an EBSCO eBooks Basics help page, and a downloading EBSCO ebooks video tutorial. For guidance on logging into personal MyEBSCO accounts, there's the How to create and manage a MyEBSCO account help page!
