National Year of Reading: Staff Favourites - Lauren
As you may already be aware, 2026 is the National Year of Reading!
The National Year of Reading is a UK-wide campaign designed to help more people rediscover the joy of reading. As a library, it only felt right to celebrate by asking some of our lovely staff to share their favourite books or magazines and why they love them.
Lauren, who works at the Health Library, has chosen Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir as her favourite. She explains:
“My favourite is Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir. I love the indomitable human spirit of the book, of persevering and banding together even when things look bleak. The science, while sometimes going over my head, is so interesting to puzzle through. It makes the book feel more grounded and real, even though it is about space travel and aliens. And if a book can make me cry about a Rock, then it must be pretty decent. After loving it for years, I am so glad the film was good.”
Feeling inspired as part of the National Year of Reading? Visit Libby to explore a wide range of ebooks and audiobooks, including staff favourites and new discoveries. Wherever and whenever you’re reading, Libby makes it easy to celebrate the joy of reading all year long.
