Library Resource Spotlight: Box of Broadcasts (BoB)
The theme for Mental Health Awareness Week, which runs from 12th to 18th May this year, is ‘community’, and the Mental Health Foundation, that has been leading Mental Health Awareness Week since 2001, want to celebrate the power and importance of community as they believe that being a part of a safe and positive community is vital for our mental health and wellbeing!
So, let's introduce one of our resources that contains some recreational content – Box of Broadcasts (BoB)!
BoB is an on-demand TV and radio service which lets you choose, record and catch-up on programmes from over 60 TV and radio channels that have been broadcast in the 30 days and search their archive of over 2.2 million broadcasts from 9 channels, including More4, BBC Radio 4 and 4 Extra, as well as BBC1 London, BBC2, BBC4 and ITV London. You can also record programmes on and off-campus as well as schedule recordings in advance, create playlists and much more!
Some of the broadcasts that you can watch include Stephen Fry’s The Mental Scars of Ukraine’s War, James Arthur’s Out of Our Minds, Alex Beresford’s Black Boys Can Cry Episode of Fresh Cuts, and Joe Wick’s Facing My Childhood. There’s also other documentaries regarding mental health that you can watch including Mental Health: Young Lives in Crisis and The Truth About Improving Your Mental Health.
BoB is also available on the Library’s A-Z of Online Resources as well as the Library’s Recreational Resources. For access, if you are not automatically logged in, under ‘Where are you from?’, search for ‘University of Keele’ and log in with your Keele username and password. There’s also a handy user guide and how to videos to get you started too!
Remember, mental health is not just for Mental Health Awareness Week but for everyday living. The University’s Welfare Support Team are here to support all Keele students and can offer guidance and support to help you have the most happy and healthy time whilst at university, and the Students Union also have services and helplines that can help to support you and your mental health.
So, connect to the broader community and check out BoB for a range of programmes and radio channels to promote and improve your mental health and wellbeing whilst at Keele, and don’t forget to seek help and guidance for mental health when needed!
