Laptops for day loan
Loan laptops are now available for student use 24/7 thanks to our new laptop loan lockers.
There are 36 laptops available for day loans from the lockers on the Middle Floor – near the self-service machines.
This means you don’t have to go to the IT Service Desk to request a laptop anymore, you can loan it for yourself.
The lockers were provided courtesy of an alumnus legacy grant from former Keele Students’ Union President John Harris.
Mr Harris left £50,000 to the University in his will, for the provision of Library resources.
Speaking about the donation, Paul Reynolds, University Librarian, said: “This was a really generous donation from the family of someone to whom Keele and the Library obviously meant a lot, so we have used it to develop the range of library services and resources available to today’s students.”
This new service is accessible whenever the Library is open, and laptops have a maximum charge of eight hours.
You will need your Keele Card to borrow and return the laptop.
Mari Chappell, Education Officer at Keele Students’ Union, used a loan laptop while writing her dissertation, so knows the benefit of having them on offer for students.
She said: “The new laptops in the Library will be of huge benefit to students across the University. Previously, you could only hire and return laptops during the IT Service Desk opening hours, but now students will be able to borrow laptops any time the Library is open.
“With this new loan scheme, students without laptops of their own will have more control and flexibility over their study hours.”
This short how-to video runs you through how to use the new lockers.
