Keele University introduces new electric vehicles

The University has recently purchased three new Nissan e-NV 200 electric vans to replace three old diesel ford transits, bringing the number of electric vehicles in the campus fleet to 8. Each of these vehicles demonstrates our commitment to embedding sustainability into all that we do.
Not only are the electric vehicles more efficient than standard cars and vans, but as the university buys 100% certified renewable electricity, vehicle emissions are considerably reduced. Each of the vehicles help to preserve the air quality on campus as they produce no air pollution, and as they are much quieter, they fit very well into the campus environment. At around 2p a mile they have also helped to save thousands of pounds a year that was previously spent on petrol and diesel.
Marlon Harewood, Estates Operations Manager, said:
"The electric vans have been a perfect replacement for the older diesel Transit vans. They are easy to drive, have significantly reduced our operational costs and are nicely suited to the short distances that we tend to drive on campus."
Keele University also has an electric pool car which is located at the Darwin Building. Any member of staff can use the Nissan Leaf pool car for business use. Speak to a member of the security team to find out more.
To encourage use of electric vehicles when travelling to Keele, a further eight public charge points have been installed and are available to all staff, students and visitors. The charge points are located at:
- Students Union
- Sports Centre
- David Weatherall Building
- Home Farm Sustainability Hub
Charging your EV is currently free although we regularly review this as usage increases.
