Biography
Dr Alison Cooke PhD, MRes, BMidwif (Hons), PGCertHE, RM, SFHEA
Dr Alison Cooke is a registered midwife. Alison has been awarded two prestigious NIHR Fellowships and successfully held eight subsequent grant applications, four as Chief Investigator and four as co-investigator. Alison’s PhD research in neonatal skincare has changed UK clinical practice.
Alison's main research interests are: infant skincare, advanced maternal age, maternal obesity, risk management and intrapartum care, but she also supervises Masters and Doctoral students in any maternal/neonatal health or public health topic. Alison has a range of methodological expertise including: systematic review, meta-synthesis, randomised controlled trials, observational studies, national surveys, mixed methods and qualitative studies (in particular phenomenology and grounded theory methodologies).
Alison currently holds a clinical academic role, a joint appointment between UHNM and Keele University, as Associate Chief Nurse for Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professions (NMAHP) Research and Education. Alison is also a Visiting Professor of Nursing and Midwifery Research at University of Staffordshire and the Director of the Centre for NMAHPP Research and Education Excellence (CeNREE) at University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust, which currently supports over 300 NMAHPPs and 200 Advanced Clinical Practitioners and Consultant NMAHPs to design, facilitate and lead research. Alison has a passion for supporting others to engage with research, aligned with her own ambition to conduct research that can help to improve maternal and newborn outcomes.
