Biography
Professor Eleftheriadou is an Honorary Professor of Dermatology with the Institute for Global Health and Wellbeing, School of Medicine at Keele University, UK.
She is a substantive Consultant Dermatologist and the Founder of the Vitiligo Clinical and Research Centre (Vitiligo CARE) for adult and paediatric patients at Walsall Healthcare & The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trusts. Her research interests include vitiligo, eczema, alopecia (inflammatory skin diseases), phototherapy, evidence-based dermatology, trials methodology, outcome measures and qualitative research. She completed her PhD at the Centre of Evidence Based Dermatology, University of Nottingham, which was was funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) and awarded in 2013.
She has published over 100 peer reviewed articles in high profile dermatological journals and, in total, accrued grant funding of over £3 millions.
She frequently presents her work at numerous national and international conferences such as the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) and the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV) and the British Association of Dermatologists annual meetings.
She works closely with the International League of Dermatological Societies (ILDS) as Co-Director for the Global Vitiligo Atlas (GLOVA), which is a comprehensive initiative dedicated to advancing our understanding of vitiligo and its societal impact across the globe.
Research and scholarship
Prof. Eleftheriadou is leading on several global projects in a variety of dermatological diseases including Global observational study and pharmacovigilance registry (VIRTUAL GLOBAL).
She lead on an international consensus on the definitions of the severity and relapses in vitiligo (INTERCEPT study)-completed and published in JAMA Dermatology in 2026.
Her research focuses on improving the care and quality of life of people living with a variety of skin conditions such as vitiligo. Her work spans clinical trials, evidence synthesis, patient-centred outcomes and the development of national and international treatment guidelines. Through close collaboration with patients, healthcare professionals and researchers, her research aims to deliver innovative, evidence-based treatments that improve clinical practice and patient outcomes worldwide.
Currently, she is the UK Chief Investigator (national coordinator/leading centre) for several large international trials on vitiligo, eczema and acne for adults and children.
She also holds the following relevant roles:
- NIHR Research Delivery Network (RDN) Dermatology Lead for West Midlands
- Section Editor (Outcomes, qualitative research and psychodermatology) for the British Journal of Dermatology, one of the top Dermatological journals in the world
- Lead author for British Association of Dermatologists (BAD) guidelines for the management of vitiligo (2021)
- British Association of Dermatologists (BAD) Executive Committee: West Midlands Representative
