Biography

Professor Wu graduated in Medicine from University of Edinburgh in 2001 and undertook Obstetrics and Gynaecology specialty training in Oxford and the East of England. She was awarded her Doctorate of Medicine in Research (MD(Res)) from Imperial College London in 2009. She completed Maternal Fetal Medicine subspecialty training in Glasgow and joined Keele as a Lecturer and Honorary Consultant Obstetrician at University Hospital of North Midlands NHS Trust in 2013. She became Senior Lecturer in 2018, Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) in 2022, and Professor of Obstetrics in 2024.

Research and scholarship

Her research examines the impact of pregnancy complications, such as hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, gestational diabetes and preterm labour, on long-term maternal health. Her research has been supported by National Institute for Health Research and various charities.
 
Her current roles include Research Engagement Lead of the RCOG, Associate Editor of Frontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, West Midlands NIHR Research for Patient Benefit (RfPB) committee member, International Society of Hypertension Women in Hypertension Research Committee member, RCOG Guidelines Committee member, British Medical Journal, Medicine editorial board member, and North Staffordshire Medical Institute Council member.

Teaching

Professor Wu leads and co-supervises a number of masters and doctoral students. She undertakes clinical teaching for clinical trainees and is an educational supervisor for Obstetric Academic Foundation Trainees and Academic Clinical Fellows. Professor Wu gives lectures to undergraduate and postgraduate students and supervises the Student Selected Component, ASPIRE and international student projects. She is a personal development tutor for undergraduates and examines at medical student and Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists membership exams.
