Biography

Dr Wu studied Medicine at the University of Edinburgh and did her clinical training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Edinburgh and Oxford, followed by a National Training number in the Eastern Deanery.

Taking time out of programme for an MD(Res) degree at Imperial College London, Dr Wu was funded by Wellbeing of Women to assess the potential intrauterine cell transplantation in treating muscular dystrophy. Dr Wu completed her clinical training in Glasgow, subspecialising in Maternal Fetal Medicine, and was appointed as a Lecturer at Keele University and Honorary Consultant Obstetrician at University Hospital of North Midlands in 2013. Since then, she has been promoted to Senior Lecturer.

Research and scholarship

Dr Wu's interests are in pregnancy complications, such as hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, gestational diabetes and preterm labour, and their long-term health impact. Her research has been supported by a National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Transitional Research Fellowship as well as funding from various charities.

She has been the Clinical Specialty lead in Reproductive health and childbirth for NIHR Clinical Research Network West Midlands. Currently she is a member of the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) multiple Obstetric guidelines updates committee as well as a member of the social media committee at the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

Teaching

Dr Wu leads and co-supervises a number of masters and doctoral students. She undertakes clinical teaching for clinical trainees and is an educational supervisor for Obstetric Academic Foundation Trainees and Academic Clinical Fellows. Dr Wu teaches undergraduates on the Women’s Health module and supervises the 4-week Student Selected Component in Fetal medicine. She is a personal development tutor for undergraduates and a medical student examiner.
