Biography

Gail Sowden is a Consultant Physiotherapist in pain management and vocational rehabilitation. She works for NHS Stoke –on-Trent Community Health Services and the Arthritis Research UK National Primary Care Centre, Keele University. She has clinical, research, service development and academic expertise in pain and vocational rehabilitation.

Research and scholarship

Gail has been involved in a number of trials, more recently these have included a randomised controlled trial (the STarT Back trial), an implementation study, (the IMPaCT Back study)  and a study to improve the effectiveness of primary care for knee pain (the BEEP study).

Teaching

Gail continues to be involved in curriculum development and teaching at an undergraduate and postgraduate level, both nationally and internationally. She has a major role in developing and delivering training and clinical mentoring packages as part of clinical trials.
