Biography
Dr Emily Maguire joined Keele University in May 2026 as a Lecturer in the School of Medicine, where she teaches biosciences, with a particular focus on nervous system biology. She is also Co-Lead for the Year 2 unit Sensorimotor Systems.
Emily graduated from the University of Bath in 2013 with a First-Class degree. She subsequently completed a PhD at Cardiff University, where her research focused on understanding the cellular pathology underlying rare lysosomal storage diseases.
Following her PhD, Emily held several postdoctoral research positions, where she developed and characterised novel induced pluripotent stem cell models of Alzheimer’s disease and collaborated with the pharmaceutical industry to characterise potential new therapeutic targets. Alongside her research, she gained experience teaching and supporting both medical and MSc students.
Emily was awarded Fellowship of Advance HE (FHEA) in 2024.
Research and scholarship
Emily’s research interests focus on the use of AI in higher education, particularly its impact on student learning, critical thinking and assessment design.
Teaching
I teach across the first three years of the MBChB Medicine course as well as the Anatomy BSc.
