The Student Curator Project gives you the chance to design your own themed collection for the library. You’ll choose a topic you are passionate about, select relevant resources, help promote the collection, and make a real impact on what students see and use in the library.
We want the library to better reflect students’ voices, interests, and identities.
This project aims to:
- Increase diversity and representation in our collections
- Bring student perspectives into the library, making it a more inclusive space
- Highlight underused or lesser‑known resources like Special Collections, Libby, and Kanopy
- Strengthen links between the Library and the wider student community
- Support the Decolonising the Curriculum and Inclusive Education work happening across the university
Get your voice heard and develop your skills in the following areas:
Project management; Planning and organisation; Team working; Managing a small budget; Creativity; Research and finding information.
These skills could prove invaluable not only for your studies, but also for future employment opportunities.
- Pick a theme that you are passionate about and want to promote
- Curate items from the library, using a mixture of stock items, open‑access sources, and a small budget for new materials
- Create promotions for displays and social media
- Use the Library online reading list system
- Reflect on your experience throughout and afterwards using our blog
While we expect that you will manage the project and your time effectively, we are on hand to offer guidance and reserve the right to provide some input on sensitive materials, policies, etc.
