Local and community history month - novels
Did you know that May is Local and Community History Month?
The aim of the month is to increase awareness of local history, promote history in general to the local community and encourage all members of the community to participate.
To celebrate Local and Community History Month, we’re highlighting some novels by local authors from our Local Collection:
'While my guitar gently weeps' by Paul Breeze, a Stoke-born author who authored two novels set in the city,
'Pondweed', 'It's gone dark over Bill's Mother's' and 'Sitting ducks' by Lisa Blower, Keele University's own award-winning writer and academic, celebrated for championing working-class and regional voices,
'The Bone Mill' by Nicholas Corder, a Staffordshire-based author who has also served as writer-in-residence for Stoke-on-Trent City Libraries
'Taunting the Dead' by Mel Sherratt, whose debut DS Allie Shenton novel is set on the streets of Stoke-on-Trent, and
'Scablands and Other Stories' by Jonathan Taylor, who is an author, editor, lecturer and critic originally from Stoke-on-Trent.
Our Local Collection is devoted to the history of the local area and comprises around 6,000 books, pamphlets, journals and directories. For more information, please see our website or contact special.collections@keele.ac.uk.
