National Year of Reading: Staff Favourites - Sue
As you may already be aware, 2026 is the National Year of Reading!
The National Year of Reading is a UK-wide campaign designed to help more people rediscover the joy of reading. As a library, it only felt right to celebrate by asking some of our lovely staff to share their favourite books or magazines and why they love them.
Sue, who works at the Campus Library, has chosen What you are looking for is in the Library by Michiko Aoyama as her favourite. She explains:
“My recommendation is 'What you are looking for is in the Library' by Michiko Aoyama. In this story the librarian not only provides books for learning but can also read the souls of the people she serves, secretly hiding books in their selected loan pile which are guides to life tailored to each individual's needs. A cosy uplifting read served with a dose of fuzzy felt crafting which teaches us how to appreciate the tiny comforts of life.
Readers of The Midnight Library by Matt Haig will also appreciate this. The Midnight Library considers what it would be like if we could live our lives over again and correct past mistakes. The librarian in this story helps to select books from the shelves to illustrate how these alternative lives would have worked out. Ultimately, we are left with an appreciation for the life one has. I love libraries and these books are a double treat of deliciousness. Snuggle down and enjoy!”
