Library Resource Spotlight: Acland's Video Atlas of Human Anatomy
Introducing Acland’s Video Atlas of Human Anatomy – anatomy lessons presented as videos!
The video atlas is designed to present a truly three-dimensional look at real human anatomy, making it a valuable resource for medical and allied health students. The video atlas shows the moving structures of the human anatomy and builds complex structures step-by-step, starting with the bones first before moving onto the joints, muscles, and blood vessels and nerves. Each video has a clear and concise narration and as you watch the specimens, which retain the colour, texture, and mobility of the living body, rotate to let you see it as a fully three-dimensional object.
The video atlas is divided into 5 volumes, with each volume covering a specific anatomical region, from the upper extermities to the internal organs, and each volume is further divided by region. Throughout each volume there are brief review sections that allow users to quickly recap important structures and objectives covered, whilst key terms related to each video are displayed below the video window. Users can also access a PDF transcript of each video too.
Searching the video atlas can also be done using the A-Z index or using the keyword search functionality. There is also a glossary, which provides an alphabetical list of anatomical terms and structures, along with the origin and translations of the terms.
For access, if you are not automatically logged in, please select ‘Sign in via: Shibboleth’, then ‘UK Access Management Federation’ and ‘Keele University’, and login with your Keele username and password. Acland’s Video Atlas of Human Anatomy is also available on the library’s A-Z of online resources and there’s a handy user guide too!
