The Dual PhD programme
Keele University has established a long-standing, strengthening and growing strategic partnership of more than ten years with Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). In October 2024, Keele University and USM signed an agreement for the establishment of this Dual PhD programme, which was subsequently approved by the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education.
This initiative, together with the establishment of the Keele–USM Centre, marks a significant milestone in strengthening higher education collaboration between the UK and Malaysia. Through this partnership, Keele University’s Faculty of Natural Sciences offers exciting Dual PhD programmes in collaboration with Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM)’s Institute for Research in Molecular Medicine (INFORMM) and the School of Biological Sciences.
Under the Dual PhD programme, Postgraduate Researchers will:
- be fully registered with both Keele University and USM
- undertake a period of research at each institution
- be supported by a supervisor at each institution
- write a single PhD thesis (in English) and undertake a single thesis defence (viva voce) also in English.
Successful candidates will receive two PhDs: one from Keele University and one from USM.
As part of its commitment to this strategic partnership, we are offering the following benefits to researchers – subject to eligibility:
- A significant fee reduction
- Free English language certification (as required)
