Producing thin-sections for research, teaching and commericial
One of the stand out features of the school of Geography, Geology and Environment is its operating thin-section laboratory. The schools lead thin-section technician, David Wilde, has accrued over 40 years of experience skillfully creating by hand rock thin-sections which are fundamental to the teaching of our core modules in geological sciences, associated research, and a range of commercial sectors.
Work-load permitting, we offer the following services to professional geologists in both the commercial and educational fields:
- Thin sections of all rock types
- Blue dye impregnation
- Carbonate staining
- Polished sections
