This is a common species of grasslands where the larvae feed on grasses. The adult is on the wing from June to October and is the typical butterfly of grassland areas.

It is sometimes confused with the Gatekeeper but it is larger and has only a single white spot inside the black circle whereas the Gatekeeper has two.

It is common in the summer months in the grassy areas of Phase 3 site and the lower half of campus including lower Clock House Drive.
