Prunus x juddii

Prunus x-juddii

A hybrid between two Japanese flowering cherries: P. sargentii (seed parent) and P. x yedoensis (pollen parent), which has characters intermediate between its parents.

This hybrid originated in 1914 at the Arnold Arboretum in Boston, USA. It was named after a sometime propagator at the arboretum Mr W.H.Judd. It was chosen for its hardiness during the very cold winters in New England. It is a fast growing upright tree with single white flowers flushed pink, and very good deep red autumn colouring.
