Biography
Lorraine is a Lecturer in Speech and Language Therapy across the MSci and BSc Apprenticeship courses and specialises in Phonetics and Speech Sound Disorders. She has been a Speech and Language Therapist for over 20 years and has worked in a Specialist Speech and Language Centre, Mainstream and Special Schools across the Key Stages and in Telehealth Practice.
She commenced her role at Keele University in September 2025 and previously lectured at Birmingham City University where she helped run a project supporting student placements into a local academy trust which won the BCU Knowledge Exchange Award for Best Public and Community Engagement in 2024.
She is the current chair of the Midlands Speech Sound Disorder Clinical Excellence Network and a Friend of Speech Apraxia International.
Research and scholarship
Lorraine's research interests include Phonetic Transcription teaching practices, adult experiences of Developmental Language Disorder, Childhood Apraxia of Speech and Speech Sound Disorder interventions. She completed a Masters in Clinical Research from the University of Manchester in 2023 and gained her PG Cert in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education from Birmingham City University in 2024.
She is currently co-authoring the Working with Children's Speech Sound Disorders book, due to be released in October 2026.
Teaching
Lorraine leads the clinical teaching on Speech Sound Disorders and Phonetics across the MSci and BSc Apprenticeship Speech and Language Therapy programmes.
