Biography

Elizabeth studied medicine at Oxford University, graduating with Distinction in 2011. She completed her foundation training in Oxfordshire before spending a year working in a wide range of medical specialities in Christchurch, New Zealand. Elizabeth moved back to the UK to take up a GP training position in Oxford, and completed her training in July 2018. She now works as a salaried GP in Oxfordshire, and as a Clinical Lecturer at Somerville College teaching clinical medical students.

Elizabeth joined the Academic Clinical Fellowship training scheme as a GP Registrar, during which she completed the Postgraduate Diploma in Healthcare Research. Her main research interests are focussed on developing and evaluating dietary and health behaviour change interventions for patients with type 2 diabetes in primary care, which was inspired by the questions and interest expressed by patients and healthcare professional colleagues in this evolving field. During an NIHR In-Practice Fellowship following on from her time as an ACF, she led the DIAMOND (DIetary Approaches to the Manangement Of type 2 Diabetes) randomised controlled trial exploring the feasibility of training practice nurses to deliver and support a low-calorie, low-carbohydrate dietary and behavioural intervention for patients with type 2 diabetes.

In 2019 Elizabeth was awarded the Wellcome Trust Primary Care Doctoral Fellowship to continue her research into dietary management of type 2 diabetes in primary care, with a particular focus on the effects of low-carbohydrate diets on glycaemic control and weight loss.
