"One of the best things about studying History at Keele is the ability to explore your own interests and the skills that you learn from this." Hear from Ella, who studies History at Keele University.
History is not just about the past. Through learning about themes such as gender and race, I've been able to apply this to modern day society. One of the best things about studying History at Keele is the ability to explore your own interests and the skills that you learn from this. Analysis and critical thinking, communication skills in group work that I've done, leadership skills as part of being in the History Society brought me a lot of confidence in going to different career paths.
I really enjoyed doing my dissertation on slave-holding women in Antebellum America, which was influenced by the study abroad opportunity that Keele runs. Through visiting history on site at plantations, it's really influenced me to have an interest in American history.
There's a really great student community at Keele with loads of different clubs and societies. You're able to join to make friends and then within the school there's events such as the Humanities Ball where you're able to meet people on your course.
The lecturers in the school are really, really helpful, really supportive and they're very knowledgeable. They really go above and beyond to help you in any way and they’re very, very approachable.
My next step after Keele is to start a History Master's at Keele, developing on skills I've learned from a History BA and I'm really excited to specialise in American History within my Master's.
