Placement Bursary Initiative

The Placement Bursary Initiative could be worth up to £500 during your unpaid/paid, non-mandatory placement, and is available to students taking placements during academic year 2025/26, and 2026/27 and/or up to August 2027.

A non-means tested bursary funded by donations from Keele supporters, the Placement Bursary Initiative is available to support students who will be completing a placement – both curricular and extra-curricular (but brokered by the University).

A brokered placement refers to an extra-curricular placement opportunity where the University has actively supported the process. This could include helping to design the job description, organising interviews, facilitating discussions between the student and employer, and ensuring that both parties agree on the placement terms.

Who is eligible?

Students undertaking a curricular or extra-curricular Keele brokered placement from any year can receive the bursary, which will be paid in a single instalment, and you can still receive the bursary if you will be undertaking a paid placement.

Please note that, unfortunately, students from the Faculty of Health and those taking mandatory placements are unable to receive the bursary.

How much will I receive?

The length of your placement will determine how much you receive. If you will be completing a placement which lasts between 360 – 504 hours, you will receive £200. Postgraduate placements which run for 10-12 weeks would fall into this time scale, as would co-curricular experiences brokered by the University.

Students completing placements which last for more than 504 hours will receive £500. This includes an Undergraduate Placement Year and Postgraduate placements which last longer than six months.

How do I apply?

You don’t! The bursary is processed automatically based on the information we hold for you, so please make sure all your details are up to date.

Who can I contact if I have a question about the bursary?

If you have any questions, please contact Placements and Projects team at placementsandprojects@keele.ac.uk and a member of staff will help you.
