Safeguarding Keele outreach activity

Safeguarding Keele outreach activity

Keele University is pleased to offer a range of free activities to schools, colleges and learners to help them find out more about higher education. We aim to create the safest environment we can for children in engaging in our activities. All activities delivered or co-ordinated by Global Student Recruitment and Admissions (GSRA) are covered by this approach. Keele’s safeguarding policy applies throughout our activities.

Visits to schools and colleges

Visits to schools and colleges are often undertaken by GSRA. GSRA colleagues within the UK Student Recruitment and Access team and the Higher Horizons team based at Keele are all DBS checked and complete level 1 safeguarding training as part of their roles. Members of the team also undertake level 2 and 3 safeguarding training to provide additional support.

Colleagues from outside GSRA, such as our academic teams, may visit your school and college. They will not routinely be DBS checked and are advised to follow local guidance within your setting.

A specific risk assessment is in place to support Keele staff visiting schools and colleges on activity that has been worked on with GSRA.

Visits to Keele campus

Keele campus is an open campus. As such, any member of the public can access the University grounds.

GSRA has a specific risk assessment for all its activity working with school and college groups on organise activity. In addition, there is guidance shared with all staff working with prospective students across organised activity on the Keele campus.

Colleagues from outside GSRA, such as our academic teams, may be leading on elements of a school or college visit to campus. They will not routinely be DBS checked and are advised to follow specific guidance on our website.

Individual learner activity

In certain instances, Keele may run activity where children are able to attend without a parent and/or trusted adult parent. This could be on particular schemes such as Steps2medicine or other activities organised by GSRA. In these instances, specific guidance will be issued to learners, parents and schools/colleges with information around the processes put in place for these activities.
