Throughout the academic year the Outreach team at Keele University deliver a range of events for schools and colleges to inform, raise awareness and inspire students to consider applying to university.
Travel support for schools and colleges
There is financial support available for schools and college groups who wish to attend on campus events. Please get in touch with the Outreach team below to discuss what support may be available.
Taster days
Taster days are one example of the activities we provide for schools and colleges. If you represent a school, college or other group and are interested in future taster day dates then please get in touch with the team via outreach@keele.ac.uk.
Please note that these events are intended for school groups and we are currently unable to facilitate individual bookings.

Edexcel A-Level Music Study Day - Thursday 11 January 2027
Join us for an inspiring day of music, learning, recording and performance, designed especially for students studying A Level Music and A Level Music Technology. The programme accommodates both Music and Music Technology students, with sessions that connect set-work study, performance, production techniques and critical listening.
What to Expect:
Engaging lectures and discussions led by academic experts on:
- Kaija Saariaho – Petals for Cello and Electronics
- Kate Bush – Hounds of Love, Cloudbusting and And Dream of Sheep
- Anoushka Shankar – Breathing Underwater, Burn and Easy
- NEW THIS ACADEMIC YEAR: A Level Music Technology sessions covering instrument location recording techniques, microphone use and placement, and the skills needed to make confident production decisions.
- Focused critical listening activities to help students identify texture, timbre, spatial placement, balance, production choices and recording quality.
- A chance for both Music and Music Technology students to deepen understanding, ask questions, and build confidence with analysis, performance and production.
- Experience a taste of university life by spending the day on Keele’s campus.
Special Highlights:
- Live performance of Saariaho’s Petals – hear this extraordinary work brought vividly to life.
- Recording studios tour – explore Keele’s professional-standard facilities
- Hands-on Music Technology focus – explore practical approaches to instrument location recording, microphone selection, mic placement and evaluating recorded sound.
Whether you’re preparing for Music exams, developing Music coursework skills, exploring music in greater depth, or simply curious about studying at university, this event offers a unique and valuable experience for both Music and Music Technology students.

What is a Taster Day?
A Taster Day is your chance to experience a day in the life of a Keele student. Designed for students in Year 12, Taster Days run in a variety of subject areas, with each one containing three taster sessions in your chosen subject, led by Keele academics. There will also be the opportunity to meet and chat with current Keele students.
Who is it for?
Our Taster Days are tailored for students currently studying in Year 12 who want to find out more about university and the subjects they may like to study. You’ll get an in-depth look at the courses that we have on offer here at Keele and what it’s like to study them, as well as valuable experiences to use in your personal statement.

Is lunch provided?
Lunch will not be provided for these events. We recommend students bring their own lunch, but there will be outlets available on campus to purchase refreshments.
