Upcoming changes to Timetabling
Over the last year, staff across the University have been working on a project to improve timetabling, following feedback from students and colleagues about issues with our current systems and processes.
We are pleased to say that various benefits have been realised, with the implementation of a new system from Monday 13th July 2026.
Benefits for you include:
- Automated travel time factored into the timetable – whether you’re travelling between different sites or just walking across campus between buildings, your timetable will now include appropriate time to get from a to b.
- Integration into Outlook calendar – as well as showing in the KLE and Keele App, your timetable will also be visible in your Outlook calendar, alongside your student emails.
- Whole-year timetable – we are hoping to be able to publish the full-year's timetable in one go in future, rather than publishing one semester at a time as we currently do. This should enable our students to better plan other commitments around their studies.
- Accessibility requirements factored in –if you’ve got reasonable adjustments which are noted on your student record, our new timetabling system will also factor these in, ensuring you are able to access the support and facilities you need. Find out more about the process for reporting accessibility requirements in our Reasonable Adjustments for Disabled Students Policy.
- More timely communication of changes – the new system will alert you when a change is made – including new additions and cancellations - to a session coming up in the next 7 days.
Summer teaching 2026
If you have taught sessions over the summer – between July and September – your sessions will be timetabled using the new system. This means that from Monday 13th July, you may notice some differences to the way your timetable is displayed in the KLE and Keele App, and you should find that your timetable also begins automatically feeding into your Outlook calendar.
If you have any issues viewing your timetable, please go to timetables.keele.ac.uk and click on the ‘go to your timetable’ button. If there are issues with your timetable, please contact your School.
Still to come
We will be continuing to work to deliver the full benefits of the new system throughout the 2026/27 academic year, and look forward to updating you further as this work progresses. Here’s a taste of what’s to come:
- Self-service room bookings – the ability for you to book rooms on campus for group work, society meetings, and more.
- Changes to sessions – we are continuing to work with Schools to look at how to reduce changes to timetabled sessions, to improve the student experience.
- Block booking of your timetable – we would like to explore with students the possibility of having timetabled sessions “block booked” on particular days of the week, meaning you would have teaching on set days and could manage other commitments – for example work and/or caring responsibilities - across the rest of the week.
