The MINER Birds - working with girls and women from ex-coalfield communities in North Staffordshire, using the experiences of the North Staffs Miners Wives Action Group which was formed during the 1984/1985 miners’ strike.

The MINER Birds project, led by New Vic Borderlines in partnership with Keele University, marked the 40th anniversary of the Miners’ Strike by engaging over 1,000 community members through a mobile exhibition, archive curation, and a powerful new play. Centred around the North Staffordshire Miners’ Wives Action Group, the project brought untold stories to life via a touring caravan exhibition and performances of The Miner Birds, written by Lisa Blower. The initiative has sparked new partnerships, revived community memory, and laid the groundwork for future creative collaborations.
