‘Lifting the lid’: an exploration of ‘social story-making’ as generative justice practice with crime-affected people and communities.
Led by Safe Ground in collaboration with Keele University and WALK Ministries, Lifting the Lid explored “social storytelling” as a method of generative justice with people affected by the criminal justice system.
Through two powerful workshops in Stoke-on-Trent, participants co-created visual and poetic outputs—including a “found phrases” poem—while researchers developed new interpretive frameworks for justice-making rooted in solidarity and lived experience. The project has sparked further academic dissemination, new funding, and plans for broader impact through recordings, publications, and future workshops.
