Information about the study

People with a learning disability experience significant health inequalities.

The CLiP study used NHS health records to compare the care received by people with and without a learning disability when they consult their doctor’s surgery with common health problems. We looked at who someone sees, whether they are seen in-person or by ‘phone, and whether they get a prescription. We also looked at how likely people are to see their doctor about the problem again and whether they need to go to hospital.

We looked at whether the results were the same for people of different ages, genders, ethnicities and areas they live in.

By understanding where differences in care exist, we hope to work out ways to improve healthcare and health outcomes for people with a learning disability.
