Biography
Lauren Metcalfe is a BACP-registered, person-centred counsellor and psychotherapist. She is a lecturer on Keele University’s MSc in Counselling & Psychotherapy and is also responsible for delivering person-centred counselling modules within undergraduate Psychology. When not lecturing at Keele, Lauren runs a busy private practice in Leicestershire.
Research and scholarship
Lauren’s MSc research was an autoethnographic exploration of mixed-race identity. With an academic background in Linguistics and Phonetics, she is passionate about the power of language to shape and reflect lived experience. Her current research interests include post-qualitative and narrative methodologies that privilege subjectivity, voice, and the creative potential of writing in therapeutic and research contexts.
Teaching
As an educator, Lauren’s teaching is grounded in person-centred values of empathy, authenticity, and respect for each student’s individual process. She encourages curiosity, reflexivity, and a willingness to explore uncertainty — qualities she believes are essential for both therapeutic and academic growth.
