Biography
Gabz completed her professional counselling training MSc at Keele University in 2022. She is a BACP Registered person-centred therapist and has been working in her own private practice for 3 years, seeing both in person and online clients. Gabz has previously worked with children at a childrens charity but now only works with adults in her practice. In her later career she has found her specialist interest in supporting clients with gender exploration, menstruation and hormones, navigating life post-partum and birth trauma.
Before training as a counsellor, Gabz studied Drama at LJMU and was an actor, performing on the stage, a street performer, a children's entertainer and even some stand-up comedy gigs. After a move back to her home area of Staffordshire, she then retrained and worked as a Prison Officer for 4 years before completing her MSc.
Gabz's MSc research was an autoethnographical study exploring her experiences of being a woman working as a prison officer. This sparked her passion for self-studies, particularly autoethnography as methodology. Gabz is keen to include and encourage the use of first person experience, storytelling and creative approaches in qualitative research in the Counselling and Psychotherapy field.
