Biography
Dr Sokhal is currently an academic resident doctor based at the University Hospitals North Midlands and an Honorary Fellow of Keele University.
Dr Sokhal trained in medicine at Keele University, undertaking an intercalated MPhil investigating the association between frailty and cardiovascular diseases, supervised by Dr Andrija Matetić, Professor Christian Mallen and Professor Mamas Mamas. He has received various awards and funding for his work including the Wolfson Intercalated Award.
Dr Sokhal has presented his research at international speciality conferences and has published papers in impactful peer-reviewed journals. He is also passionate about mentorship and teaching, having supervised several successful projects.
Research and scholarship
Dr Sokhal's research focusses on using national electronic health record data to study the epidemiology and outcomes patients admitted to hospital. He is a member of the Keele Cardiovascular Research group supervised by Professor Mamas Mamas.
Broadly, his research interests include frailty, multimorbidity, epidemiology and prognosis, with a focus on cardiovascular diseases. He also has interests in meta-analysis, biostatistics, data science and research methodology.
Teaching
Dr Sokhal is passionate about clinical education and research mentorship. He regularly organises teaching programmes and holds multiple leadership roles for national initiatives such as Mind the Bleep and STARSurg.
