Sustainability and planetary health

Keele University School of Medicine is committed to sustainability and planetary health. Building on the outstanding work of Keele University we have ensured these key issues are embedded in our education and research programmes. Our , published in 2021, reaffirms our commitment and outlines our institution principles. Our commitment has meant that for the fourth consecutive year we have been placed among the Top 40 universities in the world for sustainability (UI Green Metric World Rankings, 2020), in addition to being named Global Sustainability Institution of the Year (International Green Gown Awards, 2020).

Keele University School of Medicine declares a climate emergency and have established a new sustainability working group for the School in order to improve education and sustainability. This group is multi-professional, covers all our education and research programmes and have student and staff representation.

We are members of the Planetary Health Alliance and are developing new research programmes designed to provide evidence to support the NHS and Care sectors.
