Biography
Asli is a teaching fellow in sociology and education at Keele since January 2019. Asli's doctoral study is about 'tolerance as a fundamental British value and its impact on community cohesion'. It is based on a case study with a Turkish-British community group in North West England, which was undertaken in Liverpool Hope University and funded with Vice Chancellor's Scholarship.
Before her PhD, she gained her MA in International Relations (Europe) from Durham University, UK, with the EU-funded Jean Monnet Scholarship. She also has an MA in Sociology and an MA in Education Sciences from Ankara University, Turkey. She holds BSc in Sociology and a Minor Degree in History of Philosophy from Middle East Technical University, Turkey. Her research interests are within a wide variety ranging from political sociology, cultural sociology, education studies, public and education policy, the state, ideology and society to class studies, and media and communication. She has advanced qualitative research skills and experience. During her academic career, she gained a variety of work experiences in EU projects in Turkish Ministries and the Council of Europe as well as in several embassies in Ankara. She worked as a Radio Programmer, and as a translator/interpreter as well for Turkish and British politicians and ministers. She is also an active capoeirista.
